Do I Stay or Do I Go?
My role is to help you slowdown and listen deeply to your own voice to untangle the emotions, fears and desires beneath this question. Together we will create a safe space to explore:
- Deeply Personal and Complex Choices. To remain in an unhappy relationship or to pursue separation/divorce is emotionally and mentally challenging.
- Weighing Emotional vs. Practical Concerns. Guilt, grief, and self-doubt can be constant and confusing when interrupted by memories of love and shared happiness.
- Considering the Impact on Your Life. The decision you make can affect your children, finances, your sense of stability and your identity.
- Process, Not a Quick Answer. Making this decision takes time, reflection, and often outside support to gain perspective.
- Should You involve Your Partner. Will you and your partner be able to have a mutually respectful discussion or should you first try to find clarity on your own and prepare to discuss your feelings afterwards with your partner.
Let’s begin the conversation.
SEPARATION & DIVORCE
YOU HAVE DECIDED TO SEPARATE OR DIVORCE.
WHAT NOW?
Making the decision to end a relationship is never easy, but once the decision is made, the next steps can feel overwhelming. This is a time filled with uncertainty and yet important choices that will shape your future need to be made right now. I help individuals and couples navigate this transitional process with the knowledge I have gained working as a divorce mediator, Collaborative Family Specialist and leader of support groups for divorcing and separating people.
- Choosing the Right Process. There is no one-size-fits-all approach. We discuss what matters most to you and your family – privacy, cost, conflict levels – and find the best fit for your situation and goals.
-
- Mediation – A cooperative process where you and your partner work with a neutral professional to reach agreements together.
- Collaborative Divorce – A team-based, non-adversarial process where you each have your own trained attorney and other professionals such as a neutral financial planner and family specialist.
- Litigation – A court-based approach often used in high-conflict or complex situations.
-
- Talking to Your Children. For many parents, the first concern is figuring out how to speak with their children about the separation. I help you work craft an age-appropriate, honest and emotionally supportive scenario to preserve your children’s sense of security while helping them to prepare for the changes ahead.
- Creating a Parenting Plan That Works for the Whole Family. Children need stability and connection. They need to know that whereas parents may separate, their parents will be their parents forever. I work with you to create a parenting plan that supports your children’s developmental needs while fitting the realities of your family’s life.
