Who We Are

Kathleen (Kate) Bar-Tur, FIPA, LCSW-R, is a Fellow of the International Psychoanalytical Association (FIPA), and Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Insurance companies may reimburse for services when applicable.
 
With more than 30 years of experience as a clinician in private practice, Kate has dekveloped deep understanding, empathy, and practical common sense for individuals, couples, and families navigating complex and often traumatic life transitions—including divorce, separation, parenting challenges, and family conflict.

Kate is an accredited Psychoanalyst, Collaborative Divorce Family Specialist, and advanced Divorce & Family Mediator, who has chosen to focus on psychoanalytic work with individuals and couples who seek deeper self-understanding and wish to address recurring challenges in their relationships and broader life patterns. In 2004, after witnessing the damaging effects of traditional litigation while facilitating groups for recently separated and divorced individuals at the Jewish Community Center with the Jewish Board of Family Services, Kate founded The New York Center for Divorce and Family Mediation. This experience gives her the knowledge to help families and couples reach healthier, less adversarial outcomes—saving time, money, and emotional distress.

Education:

  • Princeton University (Magna Cum Laude)
  • Columbia University (Master of Science in Social Work),
  • Institute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research (IPTAR),(Certified Psychoanalyst) where she also served as Director of the IPTAR Clinical Center for seven years—demonstrating her leadership within the psychoanalytic community.

Kate served on the board of 
The New York State Council on Divorce Mediation, FamilyKind and IPTAR.
